Bakong is Cambodia’s national payment system, developed by the National Bank of Cambodia and launched in 2020. It lets money move instantly between banks and payment providers in riel and US dollars.[1] KHQR is the national QR code standard built on it.
How KHQR works
A business shows one KHQR code, printed or on screen. Customers scan it with their own banking or wallet app, even if it is a different bank from the business. The payment arrives in seconds.
Why it matters for businesses
- One code accepts payments from most Cambodian banks and wallets.
- Less cash to handle, count and keep safe.
- Payment records help with bookkeeping and tax.
- Works in both riel and US dollars.
Getting a KHQR code
Businesses usually request a KHQR code from their own bank or payment provider. For online shops, many providers also offer payment links and checkout options that use KHQR.
