Contents
Phnom Penh is the capital and largest city of Cambodia. It sits where the Tonle Sap river meets the Mekong and Bassac rivers, and it is the country’s centre for government, banking, trade and most head offices.
Economy
The city hosts the main ministries, the National Bank of Cambodia, commercial banks, embassies and international organisations. Garment and manufacturing zones on the outskirts, construction, retail and services employ a large share of the urban workforce.[1]
Main business sectors
- Banking, microfinance and insurance
- Retail, food and beverage
- Construction and real estate
- Manufacturing and logistics in special economic zones
- Professional services, education and technology
Districts
Central districts such as Daun Penh, Chamkar Mon and Boeung Keng Kang (BKK) hold many offices, cafes and international businesses. Newer developments such as Koh Pich (Diamond Island) and areas along the main ring roads are growing as residential and commercial hubs.
Doing business in Phnom Penh
Competition is higher than in the provinces, and rents vary widely by street. Most customers find businesses through Facebook, Telegram, Google Maps and referrals. Companies should register with the Ministry of Commerce and the General Department of Taxation before trading.
