Sihanoukville
Contents
Sihanoukville is a coastal city in Preah Sihanouk province, in south-west Cambodia. It is home to Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, the country’s main deep-sea port, and is a centre for shipping, manufacturing and coastal tourism.
Economy
Port and logistics
The port handles a large share of Cambodia’s container trade. Logistics, warehousing and freight forwarding businesses cluster around it.
Special economic zone
The Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone hosts factories producing garments, bags and other manufactured goods for export.[1]
Construction and tourism
The city went through a rapid construction boom in the late 2010s, much of it linked to casinos and hotels. After the government banned online gambling in 2019, many projects slowed or stopped, leaving unfinished buildings in parts of the city. Beach tourism and nearby islands such as Koh Rong continue to attract visitors.
Doing business in Sihanoukville
- Check the status and ownership of any building before renting or buying.
- Logistics and port-related services have steadier demand than tourism.
- Expect strong seasonal changes in visitor numbers.
