Tourism seasons in Cambodia

Cambodia’s tourism follows the weather and the holiday calendar. For hotels, tour operators, restaurants and transport businesses, the season often decides how much they earn in a year.

High season

The dry, cooler months from about November to February bring the most international visitors, especially to Siem Reap and the coast. Prices and occupancy are highest in this period.

Hot season

From about March to May temperatures rise sharply. International arrivals fall, but Khmer New Year in mid-April brings strong domestic travel to beaches, provinces and home villages.

Wet (green) season

The rainy season runs from about May or June to October. Rain usually comes in short, heavy showers. Visitor numbers are lower, but the countryside is green and some travellers look for lower prices.

Holidays that change demand

  • Khmer New Year (April): domestic travel peaks and many shops close in Phnom Penh.
  • Pchum Ben (September or October): families travel to pagodas and home provinces.
  • Water Festival (October or November): large crowds in Phnom Penh and other river cities.

Planning tips for businesses

  • Start high-season marketing two to three months before November.
  • Use the low season for training, maintenance and local promotions.
  • Target domestic travellers around public holidays.
